The 2005 Plant Picks
The following plants represent a few of the Beds & Borders Picks for 2005 as a result of our trialing process.
Acalypha w.‘Ceylon’
This new tropical addition is great anywhere you want
to add exotic flare. Wavy mahogany leaves have bronze highlights and bright
salmon-pink scalloped edges. Great for containers, 14-26".
Centaurea candissima
Grey almost white, the color is similar to gymnocarpa but its texture and
form are completely different. Very thick felt-like leaves with lacerated
edges. It stands completely upright to about 12".
Ipomea batatas ‘Dwarf Marguarita’ (Sweet Potato Vine)
This dwarf variety has the same color, shape & texture as Marguartia with a
more restrained growth habit. Great for combination planters & it won't take
over the pot.
Furcraea foetida
After using this in the garden for the last three years we are finally able
to source large enough quantities to offer it in our catalog. Upright,
thick sword shaped, variegated green & cream colored leaves. 10-12".
Euphorbia ‘Diamond Frost’
This new limited release Euphorbia is very delicate and airy but it has
great flower power. Bright, clean white flowers throughout the summer in
the garden.
Mecardonia ‘Gold Flake’ (8" HB)
Opposite green leaves produce bright
yellow flowers at each leaf axil. Very vigorous, perfect to use as ground
cover, in baskets, containers or along the garden edge. Will ship in May,
blooms mid-summer through fall. This genus always looks great and blooms
into the fall.
Zinnia Profusion Apricot
Deep to pale peach. Resistant to leaf spots and mildew like the Z.
linearis but of broader leaf. Semi-upright growing to 15-18", flowers are
single. No need to deadhead.
