Beds & Borders, Inc. is a wholesale grower of specialty plants located on the picturesque North Fork of Long Island. Kathryn Pufahl, former president and founder, began growing plants previously unavailable to the wholesale trade in one small plastic greenhouse after the birth of her first child in 1987. Since that time, the company remains the authority in this popular niche market of specialty annuals and tender perennials because of its’ commitment to quality and education. We hope to inspire the home gardener and industry professionals to broaden their perspectives on plant selection and usage.

Production no longer occurs in small plastic green houses but in a computer controlled production facility on a farm parcel purchased in 1987. Currently, 90,000 square feet of growing space includes a glass greenhouse range, an “open roof” structure as well as two acres of outdoor production in which 400 different varieties of specialty plants grow. Display gardens comprise another four acres of the 17-acre property.

“Beds & Borders” is a regional brand representing quality and innovation found in garden centers from Vermont to Maryland, over 30 municipalities and botanic gardens, and utilized by the industry’s best garden design professionals. Beds & Borders plants adorn the gardens of the Central Park Conservancy, Bryant Park, and Wagner Park to name just a few.

The company is frequently the subject of articles in publications such as The New York Times, Newsday, and gardening magazines such as Horticulture, Country Living Gardener and Fine Gardening as well as on TV with Martha Stewart.
